Magazine with the good ol' & new stories of Ericeira by Hugo

Over the last 2.5 years I googled at least 3x “ericeira history”, didn’t find much and complained to friends that I would love to have a documentary about how Ericeira evolved into what it is today. Well, that’s why I was hyped when I heard Hugo wants to include some stories of Ericeira OGs in his first printed version of the Azul magazine.

Who else could tell the stories better than Hugo, who is a true Portuguese and has lived in Ericeira for so many years? Support the ones who know the ol' stories of fishermen culture and World War II refugees, so that they keep being alive in our minds!

Also, the magazine is bilingual and Hugo told me some people use it to learn Portuguese - because you can read interesting stuff in Portuguese and switch to the English text if needed to see what a sentence means.

Side note: I’ve been playing ping pong with Hugo for a while — let me know, and I connect you to him and other ping pongers if you’re keen to play. Only locals know where the ping pong tables are hidden 🤓

Who is behind this?

I'm Svenja - I have the Ericeira bug since May 2022. When people ask me why I am so obsessed with Ericeira, I say: because it's like being in a village but with city people. So many smart, experienced people around, who love nature, sports, and fancy cafés (sorry, I don't want to be a hipster, but yea).

In April 2023, a local Uber driver in Ericeira recommended me that thing called padel tennis and since then I'm mainly a padel-girl. But you can also find me running and I want to start dancing again! During the day, I'm doing marketing for 2 small Swiss teams: a medical software company 👩‍⚕️ and a piano store 🎹

Why this site? Working in medical software companies is nice and useful. But I’ve been a manual therapist before and while it felt good to fix/care for a patient’s back pain, I always wanted to work on preventing medical issues. So my initial motivation for this site was to promote sports activities and healthy lunches.

Then my friend Zé came around the corner and started talking about how he really would like to build a platform where you can book all the things in Ericeira (like massage therapists, surf lessons or dog walkers). So in the end, with this site, we now combine his imagined booking platform and my healthy stuff :) Feel free to shoot any feedback to svenja+ze@erijoy.com
